朝鮮総連が約１８００人の日本人妻を「地上の楽園」だと騙して北朝鮮に送りこんだ犯罪を忘れてはならない。多くが強制収容所で悲惨な死を迎えた。

元収容者の姜哲煥氏はミミズを食べて生き延びた。２０人ほどの日本人妻を覚えているが、生き残っていたのは３，４人と証言。

内部告発した朝鮮総連の元財政局副局長・韓光煕氏は帰国事業について：

「いまさら謝ってどうなるものでもないことは承知の上だが、私は謝りたい。私は、自分の点数稼ぎのために、甘言を弄して同胞たちを地獄に送り込んだ。このことは、過ちの多い私の人生のなかでも、最大の過ちの一つである」

韓光煕氏は朝鮮総連が、北朝鮮に帰国する人に「総連に土地や建物を寄付すれば祖国で応分の資産を保障する」旨の誓約書を書いて財産を騙し取ったと証言する。
